Dawah

The Dawah subcommittee spearheads MSA dawah initiatives on campus.

The Dawah subcommittee has the following responsibilities:

  • Volunteering at the Weekly Dawah Booth as well as occasional dawah initiatives

  • Supervising and/or advertising Halaqas while communicating with teachers/sheikhs

  • Designing dawah materials and graphics, and hanging up posters

  • Maintaining and updating the Dawah content on the MSA website

  • Organizing other Dawah initiatives including the Hijab try-on booths, Seerah Competition, Quran buddies program, etc.

Prerequisites to join the Dawah Subcommittee:

  • Be a practicing Muslim.

  • Have taken the online iERA Dawah training course OR have other sufficient formal Dawah training.

  • Have a good foundation of core Islamic aqeedah or beliefs (tawheed, prophethood etc)

  • Attend at least one weekly halaqa or Islamic knowledge class.

  • Agree to follow Islamic Ahkaam (rulings), Adaab and Akhlaq (etiquette and manners) while volunteering at the dawah table (e.g. be respectful to others, avoid unnecessary interaction with volunteers of the opposite gender and observe Islamic dress code).

Volunteer

The Volunteer subcommittee is fundamental to organizing MSA events on campus.

The Volunteer subcommittee has the following responsibilities:

  • Help with set up, take down, and mid-event tasks at volunteer intensive events like outdoor jummah, BBQs, dinners, etc.

  • Help out with weekly jummah food sales

  • And much more insha Allah!

Prerequisites to join the Volunteer subcommittee:

  • Nothing really, just the intention to help out for the sake of Allah swt

Jummah

The Jummah subcommittee organizes weekly jummah prayers on campus for 600-700 weekly attendees.

  • The jummah subcommittee has the following responsibilities:

  • Transporting items to and from the jummah location to storage space.

  • Setting up and taking down prayer carpets, speakers, etc.

  • Organizing khateeb training/workshops

Prerequisites to join the Jummah sc:

  • Brothers only

  • Be available to help out around 11-3 pm depending on jummah timings of the year

WebDev

The WebDev subcommittee manages the MSA website and develops digital solutions to enhance MSA’s online presence and operations.

The WebDev subcommittee has the following responsibilities:

  • Updating the MSA website with events, prayer times, and important information

  • Developing and maintaining digital solutions such as a prayer times display for campus prayer spaces

  • Working on projects like MSA’s own app, ticketing system, and other tech initiatives

Prerequisites to join the WebDev subcommittee:

  • Have some interest or knowledge in software development or website management

Marketing

The Marketing subcommittee is responsible for organizing and executing MSA’s marketing initiatives.

The Marketing subcommittee has the following responsibilities:

  • Creating promotional materials, including graphics, videos, and social media content

  • Helping plan and execute marketing strategies for MSA events and initiatives

  • Managing and updating MSA’s social media platforms

  • Collaborating with other subcommittees to ensure effective event promotion

Prerequisites to join the Marketing subcommittee:

  • Have an interest in graphic design, video editing, or marketing strategy

  • Be willing to contribute ideas and help execute marketing plans

Social Justice

The Social Justice subcommittee leads MSA’s charity and community service initiatives.

The Social Justice subcommittee has the following responsibilities:

  • Organizing charity initiatives such as bake sales, clothing drives, and lunch bag distributions

  • Collaborating with local organizations to support community needs

  • Hosting larger events, including dinners for Edmonton’s homeless

Prerequisites to join the Social Justice subcommittee:

  • Assist with planning and running charity events and projects

  • Have a passion for making a positive impact in the community

Mental Health

The Mental Health subcommittee supports student well-being by connecting them with resources and raising awareness about mental health.

The Mental Health subcommittee has the following responsibilities:

  • Bridging students with mental health supports on campus and in the community

  • Promoting awareness through events such as workshops, panels, and social gatherings

  • Highlighting resources like UofA Wellness Supports, Muslim chaplains, and IslamicFamily

Prerequisites to join the Mental Health subcommittee:

  • Assist with planning and running mental health events and initiatives

  • Support efforts to create a safe and inclusive space for students
